Ok, Ok, I'm not that "Carmen Miranda", I was named after my grandmother.

I want to represent the people of Escondido the way I want to be represented.

I  was born in Tijuana, Mexico on March 16, 1969.  All I can remember from Tijuana is my mother trying very hard to raise our family by herself. My father had been working legally with a green card in the United States since 1957. My father has always worked hard to provide for the whole Family. We didn’t get to see him much, maybe once a month. His dream was to move the whole Family to the U.S., he just wanted a better life for us and he hated being so far away from us.

Later, in 1979 he received our visas and we moved to Escondido, California. He was a migrant worker and he also worked at night as a Janitor for a Medical Building. My mother was kept busy with all the kids. As I got older, I started working after school with my father.  I was twelve years old. We wanted to help because he worked very hard and he just had enough to pay bills and to feed us. I just liked to spend more time with him. He taught me how to replace faucets and clean floors and to work hard. The neighborhood that we lived in was not the safest, but it was cheap to live there. We were surrounded by gangs and drug users. We actually lived next to this house known as “The White House” , it was full of drug dealers. As I got older, I started calling the police on them, I would even show the cops where they would hide the drugs. I think I was just tired of being scared in my own neighborhood.

I started working in a pharmacy at age fifteen and year later. I received my pharmacy license. When I turned twenty years old, I started to realize that I wanted to make a difference in my community.  I decided to go back to school and that same year I received my GED. After receiving my GED, I wanted more education and I enrolled in Palomar College of San Marcos and graduated from Police Reserve Academy then received my Associates Degree of Arts. I’m married to a State of California Fire Captain and we bought our house in North Escondido. That is where we live with our two girls, ages 10 and 11 years’ old. We try to be good people in society and we give back as much as we can. In 2003 I was awarded a plaque by saving a persons life by turning in her abusers. I was also chosen as the citizen of the year for Escondido by Escondido Police Department.

I’m changing careers to become an alternative learning assistant for the Escondido School District because maybe I could make a difference in the next generation. I know that I'm not a "typical" candidate and I know I will never be a career Politician, but I know the problems that the City of Escondido faces. I know the direction it needs to go to solve problems without being divisive and mean-spirited.  Instead of wasting time and effort on issues that are not local, I can see to it that Escondido becomes a better place to live.
